2004 Silver Pines Vineyards Rose

Tasting Notes

The wine is lovely but somewhat less "berry" flavored marking a significant shift in focus from the 2003. While rich in color and nose as was the '03, the current wine is somewhat more sophisticated, finishing with a satisfying flint edge after the wonderful fruit filled mid palate. A slight increase in residual sugar makes this an easily approachable wine; great for lunch or brunch. It will complement the complex flavors of smoked meats or fish as well as mayonnaise based sauces but is equally attractive with fruit and cheese. Although we nearly doubled our production of this wine in response to the demand for the '03, it is still in short supply.

NOTE! We did not fine this wine and you may notice a "Chill Haze" develope if the wine get too cold. It will clear completely with a rise in temperature and does not affect the drinkability of the wine. We have always suggested only slight chilling for this wine to maximize it's flavor and the "haze" effect is just another reason to serve it at about 54 degrees F.

Winemaking Notes
A Vin Gris in the great French tradition. Two hogs-heads of juice were drawn off the Syrah crush about an hour after the fruit arrived at the winery. Fermentation in neutral oak using indigenous yeast progressed nicely. The secondary fermentation needed little encouragement other than temperature elevation. The finished wine was filtered 24 hours prior to bottling on March 4th.
