Tasting Notes
Our 2003 is an unusual presentation for this varietal. While maintaining the delightful freshness and citrus tones of the sauvignon blanc grape, the winemaker has brought out an elegance rarely achieved with this fruit. Fermented 25% on new neutral oak and the rest in stainless steel, the blend of flavors are mouth filling and still light. After three fining trials, the wine was finished and then bottled on January 26, 2004. The finished wine is magnificent; pleasing in color and rich in nose. The taste, from first touch - to midpalate- through a remarkable finish, will convince you that this vintage of Silver Pines Sauvignon Blanc is extraordinary. Not just another pretty face, but rather a wine worthy of your finest entertaining efforts or mellowest of moments. Consider keeping a bottle or two for the future.
We are very pleased to note the this wine was selected by Wine Spectator Magazine(Sept.15 2004) as one of the top ten Sauvignon Blanc wines of the year with a score of 90. It has also been rated 90 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and was included in their top wines of the year issue of December 6, 2004.
Winemaking Notes
Approximately 2.73 acres are planted in this varietal. Although planted as a single block in a North/South orientation, we have two clones in almost equal vine count: 1193 vines of sauvignon blanc Musque on S04 rootstock and 1341 vines of clone #7 on 420A rootstock. This block is the first to see sunlight in the morning and the last to lose it in the evening.
